Having exceeded his estimated month one turnover within his first week of trading, Steve Avery is relishing the continued growth of his Car Park Valeting (CPV) franchise. In fact, on his first day in December Steve valeted 35 cars.
Steve invested in a Car Park Valeting franchise after 12 months of careful research. Tired of running a garage and petrol station in the Midlands, he was looking for an opportunity to run his own business and his first priority was to find an established company with a strong track record and lots of successful franchisees.
"Buying a franchise can be daunting - there are hundreds of franchisors out there so I knew I had to research the options very carefully," he says. "I was impressed by the information provided in the CPV information pack and was reassured that there were so many sites trading successfully. I was encouraged by the professionalism of the company and the open and honest recruitment process. I was given all the information I needed to make my decision and could also meet with existing franchisees to get feedback from the horse's mouth."
After successfully completing the selection process, Steve was offered a site at Tesco Extra in Solihull. "I could see from the start that this would be an excellent valeting opportunity," he reflects. "I was given comprehensive information about the store, the customer profile and the estimated income earnings from the site. After careful consideration I decided to go for it. Although it is still early days for a new business, I am delighted with the results."
An important factor in Steve's choice of franchise was the training and support provided by CPV. Although he has many years of experience running small businesses, he found CPV's two week residential training course very useful:
"Not only did I learn the techniques of valeting and detailing vehicles, but I also gained a clear insight into the business and how to operate my site. I left the training school feeling confident and ready to start my own site."
Steve has had constant support from his Area Manager as well as regular site visits from other head office Managers and Directors. "Starting a business is always nerve-racking but I have been able to get advice and support whenever I need it, especially in the early days, which is very comforting."
The first comment in Steve's customer book is typical of the response to the service: "Fantastic service, car looks great." Customers are delighted to have the service available and repeat business is already forming a core part of Steve's business. Customers are so happy with the service that many of them have sent their mothers, partners, friends, etc. back the next day to try it for themselves!
The customer response has also delighted Tesco, which has spent two years trialling and implementing hand car washes in response to customer demand. Says a Tesco spokesman: "We know this is what our customers want and feedback from the first 20 Car Park Valeting sites has been excellent. We are hoping to have 100 hand car wash sites open by the end of 2006."
This should please Steve, who would eventually like to have two or three CPV franchises in the West Midlands.
