Family commitments had always prevented Terry Campbell (pictured right) from taking the leap into running his own business. However, after Terry and his wife Kim were involved in a car accident he gave up his position as a hospital Head Chef to take care of Kim. When the couple felt that they were ready for Terry to return to work, it was the perfect moment for Terry to realise his dreams of starting his own business. Terry explains: "I decided to look at franchising as it enables you to start a business that has already been tried and tested. You become part of a network that means you get a lot of help and support."

Initially looking at pub and coffee shop franchises, Terry and Kim were impressed with Dublcheck's offering of various investment levels. "You are able to go in at a level you are comfortable with and build your business from there," says Terry. "Also, I felt that the commercial cleaning industry is a stable one that would not be affected too much by recession.

"From my first approach, the Dublcheck head office team were very friendly and helpful. They provided me with all the information I required without being pushy. Speaking with the staff at Dublcheck head office gave us peace of mind, they answered all our questions and the training course covered both the practical and administrative aspects of the franchise giving me the confidence to take on my first contract."

Since launching his South Manchester-based franchise in October Terry has enjoyed ongoing support, including that of a mentor for the first year of his franchise. "If I have any problems, whatever they may be, all I have to do is pick up the phone to my mentor, who has long standing experience, and he will help me get through any problems I may have," reveals Terry.

Having signed up his first contract, which started at the beginning of November and a further three contracts starting in December, business is already going well for Terry. "I'm currently concentrating on developing my hands-on experience and building up a good business relationship with the customers," says Terry, "however, I eventually plan to take a management role in my franchise."
