The Franchise Magazine - the UK's best selling Franchise Magazine

Franchisee Diary: Eamon McGrory, Northamptonshire

It was the self-independence that was the motivating force for me investing in a franchise. I wanted to work for myself and wanted the satisfaction of developing a business. I knew franchising would be the best way to achieve this and found that epi was exactly the type of opportunity I was looking for.

I used to be a research and design manager for an electronics company and I wanted to continue working in a professional management environment. Not only did epi appeal because of this but, with a proven methodology in place it also had a great franchise package - I saw it as a true white-collar opportunity. I talked with epi and found their approach open - they were quite willing to talk about every aspect of the business which is reassuring when an investment is at stake. It became apparent that this would be the best franchise for my requirements.

The training was comprehensive and covered all of the aspects of the business that I would need to get myself going. With everything in place I launched the business in July with the assistance and close support of the franchisor. As epi is a B2B franchise, there are plenty of potential customers in my territory - there's not many businesses that couldn't benefit from a service that helps them aid performance and reduce costs. There's a strong focus on a structured marketing campaign, which is important for a fledgling business. Through methods such as e-marketing I've been able to target potential customers and drive the development of my business.

One of the benefits of the franchise is the 'epicentre' online software. Much of the business is focused around this as it offers clients the opportunity to identify weak areas of their business and then improve them. It saves them money and it saves me time - it's a great system. I love the independence epi has given me and I'm looking forward to making the most of the business's potential.
