Rob Kay had previously worked for a large landscape maintenance group for six years and loved his job, but was increasingly frustrated that all his hard work was lining somebody else's pockets. Finally he decided to start a business for himself, but initially was not too sure what he wanted to do.

"My previous company employed a regular valeter to clean their fleet of vehicles," he recalls. "One week, I thought I'd have my own car cleaned professionally, but was disappointed with the results. It occurred to me that I could do a better job myself and that here was an opportunity to start a business that would really suit me. I was used to working with my hands, I liked to work outdoors, was good with people and am not afraid of hard work. The more I thought about it, the more appealing the idea became."

Rob was determined to set up his business properly and so spent some considerable time researching different possibilities.

"I didn't just want to buy a van and some equipment then hope for the best," he explains. "I wanted to offer a really professional service and build up a regular customer base. I looked at a couple of opportunities, but nothing seemed quite right until I came across PCC. It was exactly what I'd been looking for and so I arranged to visit the company to attend one of their 'Discovery Days'."

"General Manager Adrian Stiehl was able to spend a few days working alongside me on my territory, helping me get my business up and running before the Christmas break. Within the first few days I had secured my first regular customer - an undertaker with a fleet of limousines that needed to be kept polished and spotless all year round, Christmas or not!"

Rob's first customer is still one of his regulars, but is now one of a rapidly growing network of companies that use his services on a weekly or fortnightly basis. "I've been amazed how quickly my PCC franchise has taken off," Rob admits.

"Whenever I park up to do a valet, I always attract new customers. People just approach you and ask for your details. I'm convinced that it's the PCC vehicle - it has a strong brand image and looks really professional. I'm getting into some big contracts now and am really happy with the way the business is going. I earn much more now than I did before - a bad week is earning £500 - and I've only just begun. For me, it's professionalism that pays off, and that's what PCC is all about!"
