I've never had a nine-to-five job. I spent over 20 years working for major corporations with teams of up to 50 people, looking at business transformation on a global scale and travelling all over the world. It was exciting and challenging, but I had grown tired of travelling and wanted to do something on my own.

I was looking at franchise opportunities and stumbled upon Quantum. Striking out on my own as a one-man band trying to get work from large businesses was always going to be a challenge - Quantum offered me a 'fast-start' to running my own business. Of course there is always an element of risk, but Quantum provided a high degree of practical support including help with financing, draft business plans and an impressive training programme to get you started.

I joined The Quantum Organisation in May 2005 and I now work with smaller companies, gaining a profile and credibility within the local business community and building my own network and contacts. I can work with clients in delivering the full Quantum programme or managing specific projects, depending on what the customer needs. Cash is always an issue for smaller businesses, so by working with them on a smaller scale and building their trust, I find they are then happy to continue working with us when other resources become available.

One of my proudest achievements to date has been in consulting for a wholesale business where I implemented a 'fast-cash' strategy that included a 20 per cent uplift in the return of 'previous' or 'lapsed' customers in just six weeks. I could never go back to the corporate world. I am my own boss and my success is directly linked to the effort I put in.
