Gymboree, a franchise that provides classes for the under fives, has recently acquired Messy Monsters, an arts franchise for pre-schoolers. Following the acquisition 15 former Messy Monsters franchisees have been converted and re-branded into Gymboree Arts. This has meant that Gymboree now offers classes across the UK with 50 franchisees and over 10,000 children attending one of its classes each week.
June 2008: Tiffinbites: Tiffinbites announces major UK expansion plans
Indian restaurant chain Tiffinbites has revealed plans to open 50 restaurants nationwide by the end of 2009 as part of its nationwide expansion and rapid franchising programme. National buy, sell & loan store group Cash Generator has been sold to its management. The business, which was founded in 1994 by Brian Lewis with a single store in Bradshawgate, Bolton, has grown into a national chain, which includes 13 company-owned stores and 60 franchised premises with the group now employing over 400 people.

Marsden Caterers of Sheffield has sold its KFC franchise worth £17 million to family business Marz run by Raja Adil for an undisclosed amount. The decision to sell the franchise that has been in operation since 1980 and has 14 outlets across the Midlands and South Yorkshire, including restaurants in Mansfield and the UK’s largest KFC drive-through restaurant based in Glasshoughton, West Yorkshire, was made after Marsden Caterers Managing Director announced his retirement.

June 2008: British Franchise Association (BFA): Franchise Marketing Award Winners announced
The winners of the 2008 Franchise Marketing Awards have been announced at a gala dinner held at the Royal Lancaster, London with Cash Converters receiving the Best Overall Marketing Campaign award. The other 10 awards went to HiQ, MRI Network Worldwide, Prontaprint, Select Group, Home Instead Senior Care, NBC Bird & Pest Solutions, Tumble Tots, Gymboree, ReactFast and Bluebird Care, while special commendation was given to Dream Doors and Goodchilds Estate Agency & Lettings. Over 400 people from the franchise industry attended the event in recognition of the award contenders’ investment in marketing and creativity.
