As a white-collar management opportunity, it is the franchisee's role to manage their team and fulfil the needs of the insured parties and the insurance companies. This includes the verification of property damage, building a schedule of repairs and sourcing first-class tradesmen to carry out those works.
With the combined experience of the founding partners, there is huge opportunity for the All Trades Network to develop its share of the market within the United Kingdom. The business launched its franchise programme eight months ago and now has eight franchisees across the UK. The first of these was Tim Degruyther, whose husband and wife-run business launched in Edinburgh in August last year. 'For 30-odd years I worked overseas as a manager,' reveals Tim. 'I thought it was high time that I applied myself to something else and so I looked at franchising - primarily because of the shorter learning curve franchising offers. With experience in management linked with the construction sector, I discovered All Trades and in meeting the franchisor team, I warmed to them instantly.'
What initially struck Tim was the quality of the opportunity being offered: 'The presentation was very impressive and the great thing we learned was that there is no sales involved as all work comes directly from the insurance companies through head office.'
With the franchisor providing work through national contracts, Tim was able to concentrate on launching his business backed with a concentrated period of training. 'The training covered two main aspects - practical surveying of insurance damage and mastering the bespoke computer system,' reveals Tim. 'The software controls an insurance claim from start to finish and is just great in linking our work with head office.'
Tim reports that All Trades has been 'incredibly helpful' in supporting him since his launch, through both a dedicated helpline and regular personal visits. He continues: 'As a home based business this is brilliant, with minimal overheads. However, there's huge potential for expansion with the opportunity to move into bigger premises and build a team of employees. We can only see our operation getting bigger, especially with the exposure that our branded vans give us. For those with management skills this is a wonderful opportunity.'
