Phil looks to the future after successful first year
A year after becoming an All Trades Network franchisee, Leicestershire-based Phil Makins says he is looking forward to doubling his turnover in 2008 with the help of a supportive team at head office
Prior to becoming an All Trades Network franchisee I worked for a company of insurance brokers for around five years. Although I enjoyed the work I felt that the time was right to launch my own business and decided that franchising would be the best way forward.
Before taking the plunge I did a lot of research - vital for anyone thinking of launching their own business or buying a franchise - and I was immediately impressed by the professional yet friendly approach of everyone at All Trades. The company's business model was also impressive and the training was exceptionally thorough. What's more the ongoing support has been fantastic with directors Keith Roberts and Cliff Whitehead always available at the other end of the telephone to provide support and advice.
Although things were tough at first, as I put together a team of tradesmen I could trust and rely on, the hard work soon paid off. After just a couple of months work starting to come in thick and fast - I even started to worry that I wouldn't be able to cope with the workload. Once again Keith and Cliff were on hand to provide the support I needed and now there's no looking back. In fact in 2008 I'm hoping to double my first year turnover to around £250,000.
As well as the financial rewards, the nature of what we do at All Trades Network gives me a lot of satisfaction. Only recently we completely restored a homeowner's kitchen after it was wrecked by water from a burst pipe. When we completed the restoration work the family were delighted - you get a great feeling when you see the work carried out to the highest standards by your team. My territory also covers a wide geographical area that includes the whole of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, together with parts of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire, so I also get out and about quite a lot and meet a lot of interesting people from a wide range of backgrounds.
I'm really confident about the future. I'm also getting more proactive when it comes to finding new business myself and so these are very exciting times and I know that the support I need will always be there from Keith, Cliff and the rest of the All Trades Network team.
