"From day one I've been really busy with National Accounts"

Michael and David Muncey are finding that their father and son franchise is going from strength to strength and the result for their quality of life has been unbelievably positive

Within a short space of time after starting his Autosheen franchise, Michael Muncey realised that he needed help to cope with the volume of work coming in. His solution? The former parcels delivery driver, who left his job of 15 years to become his own boss with a franchise, has brought in his son David to join the team.

"David jumped at the opportunity to be part of my Autosheen business and he's done extremely well," says Michael. "He has always been self-employed so he is easily motivated and we're now picking up no end of work, including word of mouth recommendations from satisfied customers."

For Michael, the freedom from stress that his Autosheen franchise has brought him has resulted in a dramatic improvement in his health as well as his quality of life. "I was working incredibly long hours in my previous job and I was required to do more and more for no extra reward," he explains. "It seemed to me that if I was going to be putting in that sort of effort I should be feeling the benefit rather than someone else, so when the doctor advised me to change my lifestyle I decided that if I was ever going to make the leap into being my own boss I should act now or not at all!"

Although Autosheen's portfolio of existing National Account customers was one of the key factors that attracted him, Michael was nonetheless anxious on the eve of his new franchise launch, concerned about just how much work there would be for him and whether his business would be a success. "I needn't have worried," he explains. "From day one I've been really busy with National Accounts work for organisations ranging from Job Centres to the Inland Revenue and Royal Mail. We also now do the cars at our new head office and they seem really impressed.

"Now David and I are increasingly well known in the area and our private customer base has really taken off. We travel to Whitechapel in London to regularly clean a fleet of luxury taxis and we were even lucky enough to do 13 Red Bull minis for a recent event! People like the fact that we're a family business and because we 'go the extra mile' they tend to come back to us and recommend us to their friends - word of mouth is the most powerful form of marketing."

Currently the pair operate from a single Autosheen vehicle, but the plan is to put a second vehicle on the road shortly and expand the customer base. If the business continues to grow, they may well add another member of the family to their team. "My eldest daughter is keen to join the 'family firm' too!" Michael grins. "Her husband has also shown an interest, so it could well turn into a Muncey empire...watch this space!

"I'm so much happier and more relaxed than I've been in years, my doctor simply can't believe the impact on my health. I'm really glad I've become an Autosheen franchise owner, I feel great and just really wish I'd had the nerve to do this years ago!"
