The company was named as the Coffee Bar Sandwich Retailer of the Year in recognition of the success of its sandwich sales, led by the introduction of a new Bloomer Toastie range. Aimed at mid-market customers the new range was launched in 2006 and by that December 100,000 Toastie sandwiches were sold a month. Franchising in the UK since 1997 the company has 164 cafes in the UK and Ireland and aims to increase this to 180 by the end of this year.

'With a strong bakery heritage, BB's is now a major sandwich retailer,' says David O'Connor, General Manager of BB's Coffee & Muffins Ireland. '68 per cent of BB's customers come to our cafes to eat, with three out of five BB's customers purchasing a sandwich with their drink. All the baguette breads for BB's sandwiches are oven-baked fresh in the cafes each day and paninis, bloomers, toasties and other sandwiches are handmade in each store.

'The launch of the Bloomer Toasties range, plus the introduction of a range of 'Healthier Option' baguettes and sandwiches, in response to research among our customers, means we have a sandwich offer which meets the needs of a wide selection of customers. Winning this award is great recognition of all the hard work we have put into refining the range and to all our staff out in the cafés who bake the baguettes and prepare the sandwiches fresh every day.'
