The training course was superb, I enjoyed every single day

One of the newest franchise owners to join Belvoir’s national network, Ben Davies, explains how he made a success of his lettings business with girlfriend, Daisy Hewitt.

Before launching their Swansea-based Belvoir franchise in 2010, Ben Davies and his girlfriend, Daisy Hewitt, worked in sales and marketing. Confident that they had relevant skills and experience to run their own business successfully, Ben and Daisy looked to the franchise industry for their perfect opportunity.

“In the past I’ve worked for a major lettings agent in London and in an estate agency. I also worked in sales and marketing for four years, as did my girlfriend, Daisy,” explains Ben.

“We decided to go into lettings because the market is quite stable and profitable, and the competition in Swansea is low. Daisy and I decided the venture would be far more profitable if we worked together. She’s been one of my best friends for 10 years so we’re a good team.”

After researching multiple lettings franchises, it was Belvoir’s national branding, experienced staff and proven track record that attracted the pair to the exciting business opportunity.

“I contacted several lettings franchises and Belvoir was the one I got the best feeling from and the best response,” says Ben. “Further research reinforced my initial findings. I liked the branding, the people I spoke to and the team at central office. At the time, Belvoir’s CEO Mike Goddard was Chairman of the British Franchise Association, which was a big selling point for me too.”

Prior to the launch of their business, Ben and Daisy attended Belvoir’s comprehensive three-week induction programme, which included a two-day legal employment course, a two-day negotiator training module and an intensive listing module, all of which will ensure that all franchise owners and their staff have the skills and knowledge to allow them to be the best in their field.

“The training course was superb and I learned far more than I thought I would,” reveals Ben. “It was helpful to meet the staff at central office as it reinforced the fact that we would have the support of everyone.

“It was great to meet other new franchise owners and mingle with like-minded people – we all came up with different ideas and it was good to exchange our thoughts. We were also visited by staff members from established offices and it was great to meet them and see how their businesses had progressed.”

Ben and Daisy have big plans for Belvoir Swansea and have already made their mark on the local community through marketing initiatives such as pavement art, posters and advertising at the local football stadium.

“We have been really busy and the business is doing very well,” enthuses Ben. “We would like to have 500 properties on our books within five years and possibly open another office in the suburbs of Swansea, with maybe an additional 300 properties there. We are really enjoying being part of the successful Belvoir brand and the support we get is excellent. It has completely lived up to our expectations.”
