Boots Opticians and Dollond &'Aitchison merge

Boots Opticians and Dollond &'Aitchison have merged under the Boots Opticians brand to form the second largest optical chain in the UK. Boots Opticians is jointly owned by Alliance Boots and European optical retail group De Rigo, The new entity is headed by former Managing Director Pradip Patel as Chairman, while former Dollond &'Aitchison CEO'Andy Ferguson has been appointed as Managing Director.

'I am delighted that we are able to announce the completion of the merger between Boots Opticians and Dollond &'Aitchison to create a leading force in the UK optical market,' said Alliance Boots Executive Chairman Stefano Pessina. 'The union of these two businesses, which have a strong heritage and an excellent reputation for service and customer care, will enable us to combine these strengths under the Boots brand and further develop the new business.'
