Caremark JOGLE team shape up for the big charity cycle ride

The weeks are flying by and as the date for Caremark’s big charity John O’Groats to Land’s End cycle challenge for the Alzheimer’s Society creeps ever closer, so the JOGLE cycle team ramps up the training. Their target is to raise £100,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, cycling from one end of the UK to another in 10 grueling days.

Supported by a professional coach and physiotherapist, the Caremark riders are now well into their fitness training and meet to ride together during the week as well as packing in a big ride at weekends.

Last month two of the team Graham Precious, Caremark (East Riding) and Mark McKenning, Caremark (Barnsley) cycled 'The Big G'. The ride was a grueling 95 miles with 6650ft of climbing, the steepest of which being 12 per cent. With a maximum speed of 44 miles per hour, it burned 2420 calories over eight hours 30 minutes.

While earlier this month, JOGLE rider Joe Daly, Caremark (Barnet and Enfield) successfully completed the London Triathlon in a respectable 3 hrs 5m as part of his fitness preparations for the forthcoming challenge.

Being ‘ride fit’ is crucial as the JOGLE team has to complete 1000 miles in 10 days, pedaling a huge distance each day over varying terrain and through some serious elevations!

Training is being co-ordinated by their professional coach to build up mental and physical strength and get the riders in the best possible condition for the big event next month.

Cyclist Craig Boddice is the team’s bike repair specialist and has organized the whole route from start to finish. He will be riding with the team, making sure they are safe at all times whilst supervising their nutritional and hydration needs throughout the challenge.

Joining him will be Rachael Stansfield, also a cyclist and the team’s professional physiotherapist who will be providing physio throughout the ride and maintaining the team’s fitness and mobility.

The JOGLE charity challenge starts on 8th September at John O’Groats and finishes on 17th September at the farthest tip of Cornwall, Land’s End.
