Caremark is a domiciliary care franchise which offers care and support services to individuals within their own homes and their local communities. Kevin's experience in the industry started 20 years ago when he launched what is now the UK's biggest domiciliary care provider, an ambition he has the determination to exceed with Caremark. Q&A with Charles Folkes, Caremark (Redcar and Cleveland)

Q. What made the Caremark franchise stand out to you above all others?A. The commitment of Kevin Lewis to delivering a high quality service and his integrity and experience developing a similar franchise before. It was also obvious to me that the promise and delivery of franchise owner support was second to none from Caremark's head office staff.

Q. What would you say are your main achievements throughout the 2009 period?
A. My main achievement was doing the groundwork in terms of marketing the service, raising our local profile and making sure local authorities were well aware of us, so when they decided to open up their provider list we were in the frame. We subsequently achieved preferred provider status with Redcar and Cleveland in May 2010. We also gained a two-star rating on our first key inspection with CQC, the highest possible for the first inspection.

Q. What do you do to ensure you maintain excellent and high quality standards of care?
A. We follow the Caremark quality system by promoting a culture of high quality and valuing our carers.

Q. How do you intend to pursue excellence in 2010?
A. It's more of the same. I continually strive to improve by developing my team in continuing to develop our culture of providing the very best quality care that we can.

Q. What would you say are the main components of running a successful Caremark franchise?
A. Commitment, determination and hard work. We succeed by following the system to ensure quality standards are met and I keep a close eye on financials and cash.

Individuals with strong management ability and clear business experience will be best equipped to apply the business model successfully. Furthermore, there is no requirement to hold previous experience in care.
