Q&A with Lawrence Hart, Caremark (Welwyn and Hatfield)
Q. How have you found the support provided to you by the Caremark support team?
A. The support from Caremark has been very good and is improving all the time. It is important for any franchisor to quickly recognise weaknesses in their franchise owners and help them grow and develop in those areas. After all, one of the reasons we bought into a franchise was for the guidance and support the franchisor can provide. I believe Caremark, through experience, are now much better placed to recognise these issues in new franchise owners.
Q. What would you say were the main components of your success?
A. Hard work and dedication to our staff and clients. Both Melinda and I have a strong passion to provide an excellent care service to clients while looking after our team of dedicated Care Workers. From a business standpoint, we have been persistent and consistent in our approach to marketing and growth. Caremark has provided us with a framework and mode of operation that has proven efficient and professional in organising our business for successful growth.
Q. How do you intend to pursue excellence in your own business?
A. There are big changes in the care sector and we need to keep on top of them. Caremark is dedicated to providing us with the necessary tools and policies and philosophy for this to happen. For example; our new assessment tools are very comprehensive and meet the latest standards as set by the Care Quality Commission.
Q. What kind of person do you think it takes to operate a Caremark franchise?
A. A business acumen is essential. This business involves dealing with many people on many different levels so good communication is a good attribute. Someone who doesn't get stressed easily as at times this business can be very demanding. Don't be afraid to ask for help from the Caremark support team when you need it - that's what they are there for!
In Pursuit of Excellence
The social care industry is a very attractive media topic in the current climate, highlighting the growing importance of home care providers and the funding available to support care in to the future. Caremark remains ahead of other domiciliary care providers in legislative compliance, having already developed and implemented new processes to support the new requirements taking effect on 1st October 2010. This puts existing and future Caremark franchise partners in a strong position to take the lead and pursue excellence throughout every aspect of their business.
