Dynamic duo prosper with Cash Generator
In October 2009, entrepreneurial brothers Andy and Paul Tolhurst launched their first Cash Generator store in Hastings. More than 18 months later the pair are ahead of their goals and already planning on opening two more stores.
After working for 20 years in the financial sector in London, Andy Tolhurst wished to be his own boss and Paul, who worked in retail for more than two decades, wanted to run his own store.
Having attended the British & International Franchise Exhibition in London, the brothers were immediately attracted to Cash Generator, the bargain buy, sell and loan store as it combined both of their extensive skills.
Andy comments: “I have always thought that owning a franchise was the best way of starting your own business. After visiting the Cash Generator stand at the British & International Franchise Exhibition, I carried out some further research and was thoroughly impressed by the business model, which offered multiple income streams.”
Almost immediately, Andy and Paul invested in Cash Generator, a national brand with a well established buy, sell and loan concept.
After completing the comprehensive eight-week CIPD training course, they opened their first store in Hastings.
“Our Cash Generator journey has been exciting and exhilarating. As a discount retailer, we are thriving and have achieved a lot quickly,” says Andy.
“The biggest benefit of becoming a franchise owner has definitely been becoming my own boss. It gives me the freedom to make decisions by myself without having to report to committees and, when any problems have arisen, Cash Generator has always been on hand to help.
”We are proud that over the last 18 months we have become a place for savvy shoppers to browse for a bargain in Hastings.
“We have built up a loyal customer base as we specialise in the buying and selling of nearly new products, combined with our reputation for providing great customer service. We are the first choice in Hastings for a fair deal.”
With ambitious plans for the future, the Hastings store is just the start for the brothers.
Andy concludes: “This is the start of what we hope will be a prosperous future with Cash Generator. It is an exciting time to be involved with the discount retailer as it has impressive plans for nationwide expansion in the next few years. We want to be part of this growth and already have plans to open our second and third stores.”
