The first franchise owner of Technology IT specialists ComputerXplorers in Scotland has helped children in a Glasgow school discover more about the police's Crime Scene Investigation work.

The owner of ComputerXplorers South West Scotland, John McGill, ran the six-week after-school course every Wednesday for Years 6 and 7 pupils at Carmyle Primary School.

Father-of-two John, who is based in East Kilbride, set up ComputerXplorers South West Scotland in September 2009, when he recognised the importance of developing core life skills in children from an early age.

During the course, the children learned how to examine fingerprints and hair samples, use digital microscopes, digital photography analysis and work the field scene. The pupils even had a visit by PC Steven Docherty, a member of their local Community Policing Team, who joined in the class to see how they were shaping up.

Headteacher Linda Logue said: "This class has been very popular and the children were very motivated and actively engaged in every session, learning ICT and Problem Solving skills without realising it. This will have a positive impact on many other areas of the curriculum."

ComputerXplorers classes are run in schools, after school clubs and during school time, as well as in nurseries and holiday clubs throughout Glasgow and North Lanarkshire and will soon be coming to Inverclyde and Ayrshire.

ComputerXplorers is part of a franchised network providing quality technology education for children from the ages of three to 13. For pre-school children, ComputerXplorers sessions cover everything from language and literacy to maths, science and music. Older children can learn a range of subjects including computer animation, creating video games and robotics.
