Double the potential for Detail Clean franchisees
By servicing both the residential and commercial cleaning markets, Detail Clean is a business offering twice the potential to its franchisees.
Cash-rich and time-poor, increasing numbers of people in today's hectic society are relying on the services provided by domestic cleaning companies. No longer seen as just a status symbol, it is a sign of the times that such companies have never been in such high demand.
Established in 1999, Detail Clean has developed into a company that prides itself on its reputation for providing a professional, reliable and consistent service to its customers. In fact, Detail Clean counts not only the residential market as its client base but also the ever-reliable commercial market. By servicing these two sectors, Detail Clean provides double the potential for its franchisees.
'Combine the burgeoning residential market with the very valuable and recession-defying commercial cleaning market and Detail Clean franchisees have a varied market at which to target their business,' reveals Sandra Leggett, Managing Director.
'Our ultimate aim is to provide comprehensive and exemplary services to our customers spread all over the country and we are seeking well-organised, honest and self-motivated people to help achieve this. We have an extensively proven pilot company-owned operation, a franchise package professionally developed with the assistance of Franchise Development Services (FDS) and our first two franchisees trading successfully.'
One of these franchisees is Seymour McLeod who, along with his business partner Veronica Miller, launched their South London business in late 2005. 'In my role as a business consultant I'd helped many people to start their own business,' recalls Seymour. 'A couple of years ago I thought why not do it for myself and decided I wanted a business in a growing market with a tried and tested system, backed with solid support. The cleaning industry is growing year on year and by focusing my research on this sector I discovered Detail Clean.'
The major attraction to Seymour was the growth potential that Detail Clean offered by targeting both the residential and commercial sectors. When the decision to invest was made, Seymour was provided with a comprehensive period of training that included three days of classroom training covering sales and marketing, recruiting and managing staff, administration and customer service. This was complemented by a further five days of hands-on training at a company branch after which, Seymour reports, he was to totally prepared to launch the business.
In addition to the training, exemplary service is applied to all aspects of the Detail Clean package including projecting a professional image through sign-written vehicles, uniformed staff, own-branded products, 100 per cent reliability, and a vehicle management system for monitoring the position of each cleaning team. 'We were - as far as we know - one of the first domestic cleaning companies in the UK to adopt a Vehicle Management System,' Sandra confirms. 'This system remote-manages the position of every vehicle through tracking devices to allow confirmation of arrival times, reduce insurance costs, provide detailed directions for cleaning crews, and eliminate unauthorised breaks and vehicle use.'
These are just some of the factors that have contributed to the development and growth of Seymour's business over the last year and a half. 'We also benefited from the advice and guidance Detail Clean gave us in regards to marketing and actually finding the business,' he reveals. 'From the launch, work started to come in pretty much immediately. When we placed an advert in the telephone directory we found ourselves with even more customers.
'During this first stage of the business we've been fully supported by Detail Clean all of the way. Starting any business is hard work and there's always going to hurdles to get over but it's incredibly reassuring to know that Detail Clean are there to help us. I'm glad to say that this support remained constant and was a great help when we started securing some of our bigger contracts. Detail Clean haven't let us down at all - they're more than willing to help.
'The business is growing well and we have a number of employees working for us on our various cleaning contracts. When we secure more work we will expand our recruitment campaign even further - the job is very much a managerial position. In this respect, it would be extremely beneficial for a prospective franchisee to have some managerial experience - especially people management skills.
However, marketing or sales experience would also be useful but really the most important thing is your attitude to work. If you're committed, motivated and realise that you do need to put the hard work in, then success will follow.'
