Drain Doctor franchise owner is national award finalist
Kevin Preston, a successful Drain Doctor franchise owner in the North West, was nominated for a major national British Franchise Association (bfa) award. He is now a finalist in his award category.
Kevin joined Drain Doctor 21 years ago when the company was just starting to build towards their dream. He joined wholeheartedly into that dream and helped to bring it into reality.
Kevin’s first area, curiously enough, was the Yellow Page area of Preston. He grew quickly and bought the next door area of Blackburn and built these into the No.1 areas of the country.
Three years ago Kevin and his wife Dawn joined forces with the neighbouring area of Lancaster owned by Nick and Lisa Birtles, who themselves had built an award winning Drain Doctor franchise. Working together they acquired more areas and now own a mega franchise territory consisting of seven Drain Doctor franchise areas.
Kevin is not new to awards. During his time with Drain Doctor he has received eighteen major Drain Doctor awards at the Gala Awards evenings held at the annual Drain Doctor conventions, that all franchise owners attend. This award, however, is even more special. It is presented at the gala dinner of the British Franchise Association, who, together with HSBC give national awards encompassing all franchising throughout the UK. This year their annual awards ceremony will be held at Birmingham Town Hall on the 1st of October. Kevin is one of the three finalists for the prestigious Franchisee of the Year Award in the B2B category and will be attending this event.
Following a record number of entries from around the UK, Kevin had to demonstrate the highest standards to be in contention for this very distinctive award. In July Kevin went to the HSBC offices in London to be interviewed by the team of judges. He had to make a 15 minute presentation, and then face a gruelling Q & A with the panel of judges. Commenting on the quality of the entries in this years awards Andy Brattesani, Head of Franchising for HSBC, and one of the award judges said: “The process to reach this shortlist proved very difficult indeed thanks to the number and calibre of entries.” “The award is not just about me.”
Kevin said “Our success is in our teamwork together with Drain Doctor’s national identity coupled with a proven system and the ongoing motivation of our technicians. Our customer base is constantly growing and the percentage of our business from returning customers, and their recommendations, is building year by year.”
The team that Kevin has built have learned how to specialise in many larger and more complex jobs. He has acquired the heavy machinery to tackle almost any level of work. Where neighbouring franchise owners find they have to sub-contract certain work, Kevin is happy to help them, thus keeping the whole job in the care of Drain Doctor. The success of his franchise encourages others to grow their Drain Doctor business to emulate his success.
Drain Doctor group Founder, and Chairman, Freddie Mitman said “Not only have Kevin and his team generated outstanding financial results related to the population of the area they serve, but they also develop fine customer relationships, are good ‘team players’, and spread their positive influence throughout the network. He is one of our longest serving franchisees and is part of the backbone of Drain Doctor Plumbing. It would be wonderful if Kevin went on to win this prestigious award, and everyone across the Drain Doctor network is wishing him well.”
