FDS to open new office in Portugal and looks to Brazil for future endeavours

Franchise Development Services (FDS), head-quartered in Norwich, Norfolk have announced that they are awarding their master franchise rights to open a new office in Lisbon, Portugal.

Pedro Marques, who has a background in business management in several international companies, has taken on this exciting and innovative role with a view to helping export some of Portugal’s top franchises across Europe and bring in international brands into the country.

Having extensive knowledge of both Portugal’s markets and economic climate, Marques believes now is the perfect time to offer franchise opportunities in the Portuguese market, due to the economy beginning to show strong signs of recovering from the global economic downturn.

“Portugal has spent the last few years rebuilding its economic stability back to a level where new business can once again flourish, with new and existing innovative franchises leading the way. My goal is to showcase the potential that Portugal has to offer to international clients looking to establish a franchise in Portugal,” remarked Marques.

Currently, Portugal has over 400 franchisors looking to expand their businesses outside of the borders and into the global markets. When you compare this figure to Spain or the UK, who both have more than 1000 franchise brands, Portugal is now being seen as a smaller but up and coming European franchise force. With this in mind, there has already been strong interest shown by national and international brands looking to move into Portugal, as well as investors who also feel that now is the time to start on the ground and build up a base before the prime business areas are bought out.

As well as opening FDS Portugal, Marques has begun to lay the foundations of a Brazilian FDS office. Having worked extensively in Brazil, Marques is confident that the area has a massive untapped potential for franchisors and investors to bring their businesses into the country. Several areas are currently being looked at for a base of operations with major cities such as São Paulo being widely touted.

FDS Founder and Chairman, Roy Seaman, said of the new opening: “FDS are excited about establishing FDS Portugal since Marques has genuine enthusiasm and passion for developing franchises in Portugal and Brazil. Both countries offer great potential for many businesses looking for new markets to for their brand. By simultaneously establishing FDS Portugal and FDS Brazil, we will provide a clear pathway for companies to engage with FDS for help with entering franchising on a global scale.”
