Adam Tester, Maidstone and Ashford

Before I became a Hydro-Dynamix franchisee I worked as a manager at a distribution centre, working 14 hour shifts four days a week. Unhappy with the way the company treated its employees I decided the only solution was to be my own boss.

Hydro-Dynamix were giving a seminar nearby and with previous carpet cleaning experience I was intrigued. The company's enthusiasm and drive impressed me and I felt the truck mount cleaning concept had enough scope to expand, develop and earn a good profit in a good sized territory. The varied workload and support and training package also appealed, so I decided to invest in the Hydro-Dynamix franchise and have not been disappointed.

After 15 days of initial training and sales guidance I launched my business as a partnership in 2000 and since 2006 as a limited company. What I like about running my own business is being able to spend time with my family or play a round of golf if I want to.

My turnover continues to grow year-on-year by 25 per cent. In the last 12 months I have invested in a new high heat truck mount and van, plus an office and warehouse. I still work long hours but this time by choice, as I want to continue growing my business. I hope to employ a fifth technician and develop the flood repair side of my business by the end of this year. With a new growth plan, equipment and premises in place I will be able to enjoy many more family holidays in the near future.
