"I want to reap the rewards without being there on a daily basis."

Gradutating from university with a degree in Accountancy, Sandip Chauhan wanted to plough his enthusiasm into building a business venture rather than follow a conventional route into employment. Given his lack of experience, franchising offered an opportunity to achieve his dream and Jani-King stood out because of its turnover guarantee scheme.

"I really wanted an instant opportunity and in franchising I recognised a chance to invest in a system which was tried and tested," Sandip recalls. "Jani-King's guarantee to deliver £264,000 annualised turnover within an 18-month period was a huge attraction. I sought a business that would experience high growth and knowing I had a powerful sales force behind me along with great operational support made Jani-King's opportunity stand out from other franchises."

Sandip and a business partner signed for a start-up franchise in Leicester in July 2004 and embarked upon the franchise owner training. "The training programme was exceptionally useful," he remarks. "It incorporated a good mixture of practical and theory-based content."

Jani-King's sales force ensured that Sandip was provided with a contract from day one and by month six the Leicester franchise was achieving £22,000 per month. "Jani-King fulfilled their 18-month obligation within the first six months," he reports. "Over the subsequent years we have put a lot of effort into generating additional sales through networking and developing a marketing plan, but we're still receiving contracts with national brands through Jani-King's sales team and for growth purposes it's great, it keeps you in business."

With a BMW M3 in the driveway and a baby on the way, Sandip's lifestyle has certainly changed in the time its taken for him to build his business up to a £1.2 million turnover. "I have no intention of selling the business, rather I want to install a management structure so that it generates income and I can reap the rewards without being there on a daily basis," he reveals. "Our focus is switching to working on improving the business rather than working in sustaining the business and we're aiming to achieve £1.5 million sales next year."
