Kall Kwik

Kall Kwik, one the UK's top franchising opportunities, has been jointly awarded 'Franchisor of the Year 2005', the top award from the British Franchise Association. The theme of this year's awards was 'support for success' with franchisors demonstrating to a judging panel how they deliver strength to their franchisee network through a continuous programme of help and advice. Fresh from Kall Kwik's success, Director of Franchise Development Derrick Simpson explains what you should expect from a franchisor before you invest

The 2005 BFA/NatWest survey highlighted that franchising - currently a £9.5 billion industry in the UK - continues to grow both in popularity and economic terms. In total the survey revealed 718 franchise systems in the UK - a 3% net increase on last year - with an estimated 327,000 people employed in franchising.

These figures make attractive reading for would-be business owners. However, whichever franchise method you choose, you should always expect the following from a quality franchisor: Firstly, franchisees should expect a proven business model that will allow them to quickly and easily establish their business faster than the competition. Over the years Kall Kwik has been dedicated to developing a winning business formula that has seen the average Centre turnover increase well beyond the franchising average of £291,000 to £420,000, with the most successful Centre exceeding sales of £2 million.

Secondly, you should expect to be provided with a strong brand that is well established. Since 1979 when the first Centre was opened, Kall Kwik has expanded its presence to nearly 160 Centres across the UK. The visible locations and familiarity of the name aid brand recognition and improve the effectiveness of marketing programmes - over 90% of Centre sales turnover comes from business-to-business direct sales activity providing business design and print solutions to their clients. Thirdly, although the Department of Trade and Industry highlights that 46% of entrepreneurs operate in a similar field to the one they have previously worked in, the franchisor should be able to provide you with extensive training and support to enable you to run and maintain a successful business. One of the advantages of Kall Kwik franchise opportunities is that no previous experience in the business design and print services industry is required.
The main prerequisites are that franchisees are sales focused, willing to work hard and have an ability to communicate with a wide range of clients. Fourthly, the franchisor should be able to provide you with innovation, leadership and inspiration in all aspects of business from legal and property advice right through to marketing and business planning. An example of the way Kall Kwik is motivating Centre Owners is by placing greater emphasis on franchisees' key competencies. These include a range of services from design (a hugely exciting growth potential area that generates additional print work) through to print and onto fulfilment and delivery. We call it 'design to delivery'TM and it is extending the brand's reputation for excellence beyond the core field of business print.

Finally, the franchisor should have a good track record of working with franchisees and an ability to listen and respond to them, blend their input with their own and communicate with franchisees to maintain shared values and strong partnerships. These are some of the most important expectations that a franchisor should fulfil, however, the list is by no means exhaustive. It is important that potential franchisees research the options carefully before investing in any franchise opportunity and ensure they choose an option that matches their values and aims and will provide the right structure to grow a sustainable business.

The strength of the Kall Kwik brand is based on excellent service provided through its national network. The UK's leading business design and print provider is now recruiting the next generation of Centre Owners who want the opportunity to take a proven, successful business system and use it to generate wealth.
