LawnHopper: Your first customers provided
Get a head start in lawn care with a LawnHopper franchise, which provides a proven business model and low-cost franchise package including your first customers, reports Rachel Spaul...LawnHopper is a pioneer of lawn treatments in the UK. It is the brainchild of Nigel Owen-Thomas, who started the company in 1995 having spotted a gap in the market for a company providing lawn care solutions tailor-made to the different climates in the UK.
People who like working outside, are hard working, self-motivated and eager to develop a multi-van business are ideally suited to running a LawnHopper franchise. Nigel says the franchise differs in several ways from other lawn care businesses available.
'We were one of the first companies to offer a complete lawn care service to homeowners in the UK,' states Nigel. 'The business has been proven over many years and we have thousands of delighted loyal customers and receive enquiries from all over the country. Since launching the franchise in February last year we have awarded 14 franchises - our best performing franchisee already has 1527 customers, and he's been trading for under a year.
'Secondly, we actually provide customers for our new franchisees. This means that once franchisees have completed their two weeks' training, which includes certification for the use of herbicides, they can launch their business with actual customers, which gives them a head start.'
Stuart Latimer - Durham, Darlington, Middlesbrough, and Newcastle franchisee, says...
'Nigel is genuine and honest and I immediately felt I could trust him. The results speak for themselves - neither myself or my wife have ever been involved in horticulture, but after a week of training we were confident enough to run four franchises.
'The beauty of a LawnHopper franchise is that you are left to your own devices and with any problems you just pick up the phone with great support at the end of it.
'You pay the franchise fee for the privilege of using a company name that has already been tested and proven. The knowledge is already there, you are basically cutting out 5-10 years of trial and error.
'We have 1527 customers and the business is turning over £68,000 after just eight months. By September/ October 2007 we expect to have around 3000 customers.'
Over the next five years LawnHopper aims to establish a network of dedicated franchisees, each committed to providing the highest standard of lawn care. Nigel concludes: 'This is a high profit industry where the rewards are personal as well as financial. Horticulture is a nice industry to work in and LawnHopper is an honest and friendly company.'
