"I get out what I put in!"
London House franchise owner John Whitewood is enjoying the freedom of running his own business
New London House franchise owner John Whitewood only launched his Somerset-based business in August but he's already relishing running his own business. He explains: "I really enjoy the freedom and the challenge. I like that I get out of my business what I put into it."
John previously worked in the finance and leasing industry before joining London House. "London House appealed to me because it provides a service in today's difficult economic climate that helps businesses to respond quickly to ever changing market conditions," reveals John. "London House addresses external issues which businesses have to face on a day by day basis such as providing supplier status checks, tracing debtors, chasing commercial debts, investigating fraud and from the legal markets in particular, serving legal documentation.
"The core business however, is about gathering information and providing comprehensive reports to enable clients to make decisions based on cost effective actions. London House also focuses on internal company issues such as screening of CVs, drug screening and internal theft and fraud. London House offers a range of management services, which are tailored to both the consumer and business sectors."
With no experience in the investigation industry John found the training provided by London House to be very useful. He recalls: "I went on a very thorough two-week training course which included fieldwork and ended with a written examination. As well as the course I was provided with a detailed operations manual. Since launching my franchise the support has been excellent in terms of both practical advice and business encouragement and I know that head office is always only a phone call away."
London House was established in 1995 and since then has built a network of successful franchise owners, which for John is one of the benefits of owning a London House business. "London House is well established and has an extensive UK coverage of about 40 offices and a client book of over 200 key accounts," says John. "In today's global market London House also has access to many countries internationally. Furthermore, London House offers solid back office support and has a relatively low entry cost."
John has even found time to complete a 200-mile trek from Bude to Falmouth, along the South West Coastal Path, raising £3,000 for the Quartet Community Foundation in the process.
Having got his business off to a good start John is keen to continue growing: "I have a five-year business plan which plans for controlled growth for the business with some product diversity."
