When Jean Mullan and Shaun O’Brien moved to Norfolk they began looking for a business that would provide both an income and security for themselves and their children, which they found with a Metro Rod franchise.

Metro Rod is a business-to-business drainage contractor that has a 25 year history of growth and has been keeping its franchise owners busy through both good economic times and bad. Mullan said: “The industry seemed relatively recession proof and the company came across as stable, driven and one that saw growth and investment essential for long term positioning.”

The couple was also attracted to Metro Rod's key accounts programme that enables its franchise owners to access existing contracts with major high street stores such as Next, Vue Cinemas, Hilton Hotels and JD Wetherspoon

The couple launched their Norwich-based business in October 2001 and have built the business around the demands of their growing family. Over the years they have become one of Metro Rod’s most successful franchise operators. “You have to be prepared for hard work,” Mullan added. “But it’s given us the lifestyle we’ve always wanted.”
