A management buyout of his previous company left Paul Ryder with a sizeable lump sum. As an experienced businessman of more than 20 years, Paul decided he wanted to invest this in a new business venture and so began to review his options.

In more than two decades of working in sales, Paul had worked his way up the career ladder - from door-to-door salesman to company director - with a diverse range of businesses; working with every size company right the way up to national plcs. With this breadth of experience, the now 40-year-old was completely open to every type of franchise, from every kind of industry.

"A fast food restaurant, coffee shop and retail outlet were all on the cards at one stage or another, but when I found Northwood, it was almost as though the decision had been made for me - it just stood out a mile from all the other options.

Within a year of opening, Northwood Eastbourne had already outgrown its office and was able to expand into the empty premises next door. At the same time Paul was able to add the sales side of the Northwood franchise to the business giving the office extra potential for growth.

Now two years since the business started, Northwood Eastbourne employs six staff and Paul is at the helm of a successful business which is well ahead of its three-year target.
