Greenwood, 61, set up oven cleaning service Ovenu West Yorkshire four years ago and has recently cleaned his 5,000th oven.

Greenwood previously built up a steel company, which he set-up in 1984, to such an extent that it carried a £4 million price tag when he sold it in 2004.

While it may seem odd for someone who had been the chief executive of a thriving business to be cleaning ovens, Greenwood said: “I saw it as a great opportunity. I already knew the product and the brand because I had been using them for two or three years.”

“We specialise in cleaning Agas as well as single and double ovens and we try to attract the higher end of the business.”

Commenting on his decision to take up the franchise, Greenwood said: “I wanted to focus on building a business which had a strong record, even in tough economic times.”

“I an looking to expand the business. I said when I took it that eventually I wanted it to be a 10-site operation. I have five at the moment, so I am half way there. It’s not about the money. What motivates me is seeing how far I can take this business. I used to work 50 or 60 hours a week and at the age of 63 I have as much ambition as someone in there 20s,” explained Greenwood.
