Pizza takeaway franchise Papa John's has awarded its top pizza makers at its annual Papa John's Pizza Games. Teams of pizza makers from stores in Lincoln, Taunton and Caterham battled it out in the final of the tournament at Papa's Johns annual conference in Old Windsor. They had each won regional heats, which places them among Papa John's top UK outlets.

Louise Wass, Caroline Lane, Shona Reid and Cat Webb from the Lincoln store were crowned the Pizza Games Champions because their pizzas were judged to be of the highest quality, they each won £1000.

The Caterham team came second and took home a cheque of £2000, while reigning champions Taunton came in third to win £1000.

The teams were handed their cheques by Papa John's founder John Schnatter, who flew in from the USA especially for the event. He says: 'All three teams showed incredible skill and speed in the Pizza Games, and I congratulate them on their success. Although getting pizzas to our customers quickly is a priority, we never compromise on quality and truly live up to our 'Better Ingredients, Better Pizza' pledge. All our dough is 100 per cent fresh so cooking 11 high quality pizzas in such a short space of time is a fantastic achievement.'
