Prontaprint evolution

Could you be the owner of a £multi-million business? Prontaprint reveals the stories behind the successes of two franchisees that have benefited from being part of a Business Superbrand

Prontaprint is one of the most significant brands in franchising. Always at the forefront of the business print marketplace, Prontaprint has constantly kept one step ahead in technology, service and high quality support to offer outstanding business opportunities to new franchisees. Right now, our brand proposition is evolving too. We're repositioning to attract more large and medium-sized businesses and readying ourselves for the next chapter in the Prontaprint success story...and you could play a part in it.

With existing blue chip clients like Hush Puppies, Dixons and British Airways and the market for colour print growing by 23 per cent in the UK (source: Cap Ventures), there's never been a better time to come on-board.

The future looks bright for Prontaprint and we're looking for people with the unique mix of entrepreneurial spirit and instinct for teamwork you need to succeed in our marketplace, coupled with the drive and ambition to run your own business. People like former regional sales boss Peter McFarlane of Prontaprint York - one of our many successful new centre openings in recent years.

A year ago Peter left pharmaceutical company Pfizer to satisfy a yearning to control his own destiny. We made sure he could draw on the very latest digital printing technology to equip his new centre - our ongoing business support and his energy and marketing expertise has proved a winning formula.

Peter set up his centre from scratch. He needed premises, staff, equipment... everything to get started - plus an intensive and aggressive marketing campaign to launch his new centre and secure turnover. Opening a new centre is always a major challenge but much easier when you consider the high level of marketing support, training, technical help and financial backing we provide you with at Prontaprint.

Our unrivalled business support team, one of the largest of any franchise organisation, got behind Peter right from the start. After helping him with his business plan, we found Peter a suitable business park location and took him through our comprehensive six-week induction training covering all aspects of centre management and operation as well as giving him solid technical grounding in the services we offer.

Expert support is available to everyone joining Prontaprint throughout the lifetime of their franchise giving you whatever help you need in technical, IT, commercial, training, sales, marketing, estates, recruitment and purchasing support.

'In the early days I was in almost daily contact with the support teams at Prontaprint Limited,' says Peter. 'Now I see my field-based Business Development Manager every six weeks. There's always expertise on hand.' Our team helped Peter recruit an experienced graphic designer and production expert and we used our unequalled knowledge of digital print technology and the strength of our corporate buying power to get him the best possible deals on cutting-edge equipment.

12 months on, Peter is celebrating his latest client win - producing marketing literature for a major national shoe retailer - and heaping praise on his team.

'They are very committed and being the most recognisable brand in the business, the Prontaprint name really opens doors for us,' says Peter. 'Thanks to Prontaprint's marketing support, some of our accounts have been with us since the first week and we've grown to the point where we now deal with a couple of the biggest companies in York. Although I'm working to a formula, it's a proven formula - and I still make all my own business decisions.'

It's the same formula that has lead to the overwhelming business success of Pat Lilley and Paul Paintain - owners of Prontaprint's flagship centre in central Birmingham. The centre has been at the head of Prontaprint's sales league tables for 13 consecutive years and currently achieves a staggering £2 million annual turnover.

'Using Prontaprint's support we went out to target the kind of clients which would generate significant revenue for us,' explains Paul. 'We've since developed long-term profitable relationships with companies that have vast requirements such as advertising agencies. Without the Prontaprint brand behind us, we would not have been so successful winning them over.

'Now we have a long client list with many established brand names, we employ over 20 staff and we maintain a proud reputation for excellence in quality, service and customer care. To cap it all both Pat and myself are financially secure with most of the things that we want - a great house, nice cars and, most of all, a good quality family life.'

Now it is your chance to write your own chapter in our success story. Prontaprint is currently recruiting franchisees for business design and print centres right across the UK and Ireland. You know we're a brand with big ambitions, so if you think you've got what it takes get in touch.

Re-sales are a good opportunity
Prontaprint has a strong selection of attractive re-sale opportunities available for potential new franchisees.

Twenty Five centres are currently available at a range of locations across the UK. Re-sales are the perfect answer if you wish to take on an already-successful business design and print centre with a strong client base as a going concern.

Taking on an existing business gives you, the franchisee, several advantages. You'll have a ready cash flow and significant turnover from day one. You'll also have an established team of experienced professionals in business design and print who can produce eye-catching creative work and develop new business opportunities.

Additionally, there are existing client relationships ready for you to develop, with a fully-equipped centre at your disposal.

Prontaprint Swindon is one such centre. Recently modernised and upgraded by the current owner, it offers many advantages to any incoming buyer. The centre is now equipped with the very latest digital print production and finishing equipment following a major refurbishment and this enables its clients to benefit from fast turnaround, high quality design and print solutions at an affordable price.

Current owner Chris Wiseman is now looking to cash in on his investment and the sustained business growth he has built up over the years. 'Since taking over we've managed to transform the centre from one reliant on walk-in trade to a sophisticated operation focused on business-to-business sales,' explains Chris. 'Turnover is currently around £200,000 per year, however there's plenty of opportunity for yet more growth if the new owner takes full advantage of the support available from Prontaprint Limited.'

Prontaprint Swindon has recently acquired a raft of new high-profile clients including various large blue chip corporates and public sector organisations. These new client relationships offer a new franchisee the opportunity to hit the ground running and exploit the potential for further development.

Whoever takes over Prontaprint Swindon will have an excellent opportunity to operate without any major new investment and quickly reap the rewards of taking over an established business. If you have the ambition to succeed and a background in business management, sales and/or marketing, the rewards are there for the taking.

As well as Swindon we have 25 re-sale opportunities available including Birmingham Acocks Green, Barking, Bath, Blackburn, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Grimsby, Inverness, Stoke, Surbiton and Yeovil.
