Emerging from the crowd

Earlier this summer, care services provider Right at Home celebrated being awarded the 'Emerging Franchisor of the Year' award at the annual bfa HSBC Franchise Awards. The Franchise Magazine spoke to Master franchisor, Ken Deary, about Right at Home's awards win and how it intends to build upon this success.

The evening of June 25 was a particularly special one for Right at Home Master franchisor, Ken Deary, and indeed all of Right at Home’s franchise owners and employees across the country. It was on this night that Ken, together with Operations Director Tim Jones, took to the stage at the annual British Franchise Association (bfa) Awards ceremony to collect the award for ‘Emerging Franchisor of the Year’. Discussing Right at Home’s win at the ceremony, bfa Director General Brian Smart praised the brand for the level and quality of support that it provides its franchise owners, as well as the fact that it had, as he put it, ‘built a road to success while neither cutting costs nor compromising on quality’.

Ken himself came in for praise from Brian, who pointed out that his unstinting franchise owner support and uncompromising focus on quality and standards underline his determination to build an ethical franchise system.

Q: Congratulations on being named ‘Emerging Franchisor of the Year’ at the bfa HSBC Franchisor of the Year Awards. How does it feel to be presented with this award? A: It is a great honour to have been given this award, particularly when both the number and quality of entrants in this category was so high, and as it was only introduced by the bfa this year and was very hotly contested. It is our first bfa award and we have others in our sights as we grow.

Q: How important is such recognition to Right at Home and what do you put this success down to? A: This endorsement goes to the very heart of what everyone at Right at Home strives for, and we intend to build on it every day going forward. It is also a very welcome acknowledgement of all the hard work that has been put in over the past three years, building a great franchise system that is now starting to yield very exciting results. It would not have been possible without the hard work of our franchise owners and the team at head office.

Q: Why do you personally believe that Right at Home was named 'Emerging Franchisor of the Year' ahead of the other nominees? A: I believe we successfully demonstrated the very strong quality care ethos that runs throughout the Right at Home network; the quality of the support we give our franchise owners and the amount of hard work and planning that has enabled us to build this business on very solid foundations. The judges also acknowledged the ‘extraordinary franchise owner results’ that our system is now delivering, with many franchise owners performing significantly above plan.

Q: How do you now intend to build upon this success in the coming months? A: Receiving the award is a wonderful endorsement for our brand in what is already an exciting year for Right at Home UK, with significant group developments underway and group turnover set to double. We look forward to continuing to meet ethical and motivated franchise-seekers who have a genuine desire to help others, but will control the growth of our network. This measured growth strategy will ensure we continue to provide the best possible support to our franchise owners in order to deliver quality home care to communities across the country.
