Brothers bringing the sásta vibe to Cork

sásta continues to spread its unique brand of weight loss and fitness services across Ireland. The Franchise Magazine reports on the success of its new Ballincollig studio, the first to take Cork by storm

Founded in 2012 by Irish Franchise Assocation Franchising Woman of the Year, Fiona Egan, it has taken less than two years for the name sásta to cement itself among the most exciting young brands within the weight loss and fitness industry. Embracing the true meaning of its monikor, sásta being the Irish word for being content and satisfied, the brand has been embraced equally well by its ever-growing client lists in Sligo, Athlone, Naas and Carrick on Shannon.

The newest edition to sásta’s steadily expanding family is its Cork studio, located in Ballincollig and headed up by brothers David and Kevin O’Byrne. Aged 26 and 23 respectively, the O’Byrne brothers knew from very early on in their lives that they one day wanted to be self-employed. Sharing a passion for fitness, it was always their ambition that this would be at the heart of any new venture they embarked on. Having spent 18 months dilligently researching franchising opportunities, research that at one point saw Kevin visiting Australia, they eventually came across an exciting opportunity with an emerging Irish franchise.

“When we came across sásta we knew it was the ideal business opportunity for us,” explains David, a qualified personal trainer who holds a Degree in Business Information Systems and a Masters in Management & Marketing from University College Cork (UCC).

As David goes on to confirm, one particular ingredient behind the Cork studio’s initial success has been the appeal of sásta’s Irish made and patented fitness pod. The pod forms a vacuum seal over the top of a treadmill, thus creating an environment where clients can lose weight at a faster rate than if using a standard treadmill.

“This pod, our welcoming and non-intimidating studio and the one-to-one tailored support we give in terms of the sásta low GL meal plan, personal trainer motivation, body sculpting and our weekly food diary and measurement reviews, means that sásta achieves much more powerful results than a standard gym or weight loss scheme,” he says. As is the case within other sásta studios, clients visit the Cork studio by appointment, with the time saving 30 minute workout on offer appealing massively to busy people. Furthermore, because the sásta pod is suitable for individuals weighing up to 31 stone, clients of all shapes, sizes and ages are able to increase their fitness at rates that they previously had only dreamed of.

Kevin, the younger of the two brothers, is a self-confessed sports nut. He currently plays senior rugby for UL Bohemians Rugby Football Club, and has played at Under-19 level for Ireland and the Connaught A Team and, in addition to setting up the sásta business, he is currently studying strength and conditioning at the Limerick Institute of Technology.

Having worked in the fitness and leisure industry in both Ireland and Australia, Kevin feels that sásta is completely unique, quick and effective and ever so slightly addictive. “Testimonials, health professionals’ and doctors’ reports, as well as clear weight loss results, have given sásta an incredible reputation throughout Ireland as being a new and effective way to lose weight, get fitter and improve health,” he enthuses. “A big part of the business is elite high performance fitness programmes for athletes. Personal bests are being crushed after just a few weeks of using sásta. Just look at the sásta website and you will see what we mean when we say ‘real people, real results.'"

David and Kevin will be hoping to emulate the achievements of another pair of siblings who have prospered from the success of the sásta brand, sisters Lisa Garvin and Joanne Cullen. Together, Lisa and Joanne’s Sligo studio has filled what was previously a gap for a high performance fitness product and today provides a welcoming and motivational hub for people of all ages and backgrounds to stay healthy and keep fit.

“sásta is such a rewarding business to own and operate,” Joanne told Irish Franchise Magazine last year. “We can genuinely say we love owning and working within such a positive business. The assistance we have received from Fiona and the team has been amazing and the training, marketing campaigns and technical support that we get on a continuous basis is really contributing to our success.”

Returning to David and Kevin, the pair are delighted with the response their sásta studio in Ballincollig, Cork has received thus far.

“Thankfully, we have been busy since day one,” explains David. “People can book a free trial with absolutely no obligation, no pressure. It’s a completely new challenge for everyone regardless if you rarely exercise or are a full-time athlete. What’s more, sásta results come with the only money back guarantee in the marketplace. We offer a full money back guarantee to customers who do not lose a clothes size in their first four weeks. We are so motivated by the results our clients are achieving, we are in the sásta business!"

No doubt that Fiona and the rest of the sásta family will be looking to achieve similar results when its forthcoming studios in Drogheda, Galway and Brighton open their doors in the coming months.
