Some franchise owners invest in a business because they want a better work life balance, more time with their family and to build a legacy for their family. What better way then, than to get the family involved in the franchise too? That's what father and son Roger and Paul Maguire found when they took on the Sudbury franchise for mobile automotive paint repairer SMART ABC.

Roger and Paul, aged 56 and 26 respectively, launched their new SMART ABC franchise in Sudbury at the beginning of January but are old hands at working together. Roger explains: 'Paul and I have been in business together since Paul was 18 and love working together. We complement each other really well - I'm more business focused and Paul is more practical and technically minded.'

Before investing in their SMART ABC franchise, Roger and Paul managed a publishing business. 'I'm a firm believer that you should have an eye to the future and know what businesses and industries are on the up'' says Roger. 'Everything has a shelf life and publishing is declining. Paul and I had been searching for a new business opportunity for some time when we met the SMART ABC team and were very impressed by the business model.'

SMART ABC uses the world's most advanced Smart Repair System to repair minor damage to a car's paintwork in less than an hour and at affordable prices. Roger continues: 'The product and technology is light years ahead of any competitors. It's guaranteed to produce invisible repairs in the shortest possible time. The SMART ABC system performs consistently to such a high standard and is the only SMART (Small to Medium Area Repair Technique) repairer to guarantee every repair for life.'

Roger and Paul have found that running the franchise together has other benefits too. 'Paul and I share the work,' explains Roger. 'I can go out in the van early in the day to begin repairs, Paul joins me later in the day and then I can get home while he works later in the evening. By sharing shifts we can work for longer, cover each other and make more of our territory.

'SMART ABC is growing rapidly. They provide us with a great deal of training and support, which has enabled us to manage our franchise successfully. There's nothing better than a satisfied customer and we have lots of those - customers who are happy to recommend us and refer us to friends and family. Working together as father and son and doing what you enjoy gives great job satisfaction. Now we're considering our options for the future. We may even expand our territory and take on another van.'
