Kevin Lawson, Chester & Wirral

SNACK-in-the-box has given me a new zest for life

Before becoming a SITB franchisee I was a Transport Co-ordinator, working 12-hour night shifts five days a week. This meant I had limited time to spend with my friends and family. Keen to change my lifestyle and see more of the people I care about I decided to investigate my options.

I purchased an existing franchise in the Chester & Wirral area. SITB appealed because I have worked in the transport and distribution industry for over 16 years, so felt confident in my ability to build on the existing business's success. The fact that SITB is associated with Cadbury was another incentive to invest because Cadbury is a reputable manufacturer of quality snack products.

Since I took over the Chester and Wirral territory in May 2008, I have successfully built up the business from a weekly turnover of £980 and 90 clients to £2,500 and 150 clients. At the moment my business is a one man in a van operation, however my aim is to gain an extra 60 customers and have another van on the road within a year so that my partner Jackie can play a more active role within the business.

As part of the franchise package I was put on a one-week intensive training course where I learned how to run my business effectively from ordering stock through to VAT. I also shadowed the Birmingham-based franchisee John Boyles for a day, which proved invaluable. All franchisees have access to ongoing telephone support and regular site visits by a Franchise Manager so you never feel completely on your own.

Thanks to SITB I have a new zest for life - I enjoy going to work, meeting the clients and building lasting relationships. I now work flexible hours, so I can see more of my friends and family and finally have the time to play the odd game of golf!
