Two new Subway stores opened at Welcome Break Motorway Services in the UK on Friday 13th of December. The first located at Charnock Richard Services on the M6, local MP Lindsay Hoyle attended the opening. The second store to open was on the Woodall Services outside of Sheffield. The new stores have help create 20 full time and part time jobs.

Keen to introduce a concept into their service stations that offers customers a healthier option, Welcome Break chose the Subway brand as they recognised the brand’s ongoing commitment to encouraging a healthier, more active lifestyle.

The Subway brand is a committed partner to the UK Government’s Public Health Responsibility Deal and is the only QSR to have endorsed six of the nutrition-related pledges. The Subway brand has reduced salt, eliminated trans fats, displayed nutritional information on menu boards, cut calories across the product range, increased access to fruit and vegetables and reduced saturated fat.

The new Welcome Break stores are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week ensuring that customers have access to healthier choices, made fresh in front of them, no matter what time of day or night.

Rod McKie, CEO of Welcome Break comments; “We are thrilled to be announcing that the Subway brand has been added to our existing offering at Welcome Break Woodall and Welcome Break Charnock Richard. We have been looking to introduce our customers to healthier options and the product range that the Subway brand offers has enabled us to do this at two of our service stations. This is a partnership that we predict to go from strength-to-strength and we fully expect to be introducing the Subway brand to other Welcome Breaks across the UK in the very near future.”

Neil Denny, Subway Development Agent for the North West, comments: “We have been working closely with Welcome Break over recent months and we are very excited to be opening the first two stores in the partnership. A Subway franchise is the perfect fit for a busy motorway service station and from a consumer perspective there is a real gap for healthier, made-to-order, great value options when customers stop on their travels. We hope to see many more Subway stores in Welcome Break motorway service stations in the coming months.”
