The franchise owner of SUBWAY Guiseley, Ian Dawes, has just won his second prestigious award of the year.

Earlier this year Dawes won Franchisee of the Year in a ceremony held by his local SUBWAY office for Greater Manchester & West Yorkshire. Last week saw Dawes take the trophy for Franchisee of the Year (single unit owner) for the whole of the UK and Ireland.

The ceremony took place at the Telford International Centre in Shropshire, which was hosting the SUBWAY UK and Ireland convention for 2012 with SUBWAY franchise owners from all over the UK attending. This event sees many business owners come together to discuss and plan for the upcoming year, as well as a short award ceremony on the final day of the event.

This year was a particularly special event as the SUBWAY CEO and co-founder Fred DeLuca was there to offer help and inspiration to SUBWAY’s franchise owners. DeLuca spent time talking to franchise owners and also took part in a question and answer session discussing his 47 years running the company.

As well as the Franchisee of the Year (single unit owner), awards were handed out for the biggest platters sales and Franchisee of the Year (multi unit owner). On receiving his award Dawes said: “It was a complete shock to me, I really didn't expect to win.”

SUBWAY Guiseley has been in the ownership of Dawes since May 2010, which was his first venture into franchising. Previously Dawes worked as a Head Chef in restaurants and hotels all over West Yorkshire. He has also held a Michelin ‘Bib Gourmand’ award while working at the Rose & Crown restaurant in Sutton-on-the-Forest just outside York. After spending 20 years working for other owners he realised he wanted to run his own business and he decided to get involved with SUBWAY.

Since Dawes took over two years ago, the store has gone from strength to strength. The store has been involved in several local food awards, its own business networking groups and many sponsorship deals of local sports clubs. There has been several charity events in-store promoting healthy lifestyles and Dawes has also given talks to local school pupils on health eating. Two local schools have also benefited from SUBWAY Guiseley after Dawes awarded several prizes in a colouring competition.
