The table charts Britain's private firms with the fastest profit growth over their last three years and is produced by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research company.

Commenting on Global's success, the report notes that the company's members now account for £500 million worth of holidays per annum and that a threefold increase in its membership network has contributed to a 75 per cent profit growth each year from 2000 to 2003.

Global Travel is one of three franchisors on this year's list, proving that networks of independent business owners can make a significant impact on the UK's business community.

Tony Scott, Global's Head of Membership, is delighted with the result: 'Being listed in the Profit Track 100 is recognition of the hard work of every one of our 500+ members. We've always said that owning a Global Travel franchise allows our members to compete with the larger multiple holiday groups and this listing proves that.'

PricewaterhouseCoopers Head of UK Regions Frank Blin says: 'This year's league table demonstrates that it is those companies with a sound understanding of how their competitive strategies can improve sales and margins that are able to achieve sustained profitability and success.'
