The Global Travel Group: Positive relationships are the key to success
Specialising in long haul travel, Global Travel Group member Mark Hurrell discusses how his business takes him all over the world
Mark Hurrell (pictured below, second from right) opened Mark's Travel in March 2004, after previously working as a Customer Services Manager for an electricity and gas company. Mark carried out extensive research into the market, before deciding to join The Global Travel Group.
'I chose the Group as it has the best credibility with a good technology offering and support network that suited my home based operation,' says Mark. 'I view the membership costs as an investment that gives me access to a pool of staff I would otherwise have to employ! The business started with a bang and we have gone on to do really well in our first couple of years to date.'
The online agency specialises in Long Haul Worldwide, especially to Africa, the Far East and Indian Ocean. Mark came second in the 2005 Kuoni Long Haul Consultant of the Year Competition held in San Francisco and attempts to visit many of their key destinations as often as he can to keep up to date.
Resourcefully, Mark's Travel has a Premium Club in place for its top 50 high spending clients. 'We have built up an extensive client base over the years and our regulars are a joy to work with. We also get some excellent recommendations from clients which help attract new business. Members of the Premium Club get invites to various events and priority service. We took some of them along to the Kuoni World Class Polo Cup recently to watch Prince Harry play raising money for the Prince's charity in Africa, which was just fantastic.'
Mark believes the agency's success is due to its close working relationships with key partners, allowing it to give clients excellent service. 'One example is our membership of the 'Kuoni Millionaire Club' this year which we are very proud of,' says Mark. 'We also have an exceptional relationship with the team at Head Office who help create some fantastic holidays for our clients. Such positive relationships really are the key to our success.'
