'The market opportunity is enormous and a TV is now seen as a necessity in every home, regardless of household income levels,' says co-Founder Phil Wilkins. 'Some people will be able to use their existing TV aerials to receive digital signals, though most will need to have new aerials installed to ensure high reception quality and to receive all the services.'
With more than 4 million homes in the UK not yet ready for digital, TVSAS turned to franchising to complete nationwide coverage and take full advantage of the market. Martin Dallas, TVSAS franchisee for Colchester & Ipswich, reveals: 'With the impending digital switchover, when I heard about TVSAS I thought that it was a golden opportunity. I worked in TV retail, delivering and installing the equipment, so I had a good idea about the industry and could see the potential in the franchise. 'I did have some experience in electricals but it's not completely necessary to have this. However, I think an interest in the subject and having a technical mind would be helpful. The business launched six months ago and I've steadily picked up new customers. I advertise locally and potential customers phone the TVSAS call centre, who close the deal. It means someone can answer the phone all day long and enables me to spend more time with customers - it's a great system. There's also masses of support in all aspects of the business - I couldn't ask for more.
'The work is flooding in meaning that there's a lot of potential to develop this business across a larger territory. I'm aiming to expand across East Anglia, take on some employees and build a management business - this will take time but the work itself is fantastic. It's been a very positive step for me, I'd recommend franchising with TVSAS to anyone.'
Robin Neal, TVSAS franchisee for Brighton, explains how his interest and experience drew him towards the TVSAS opportunity. 'I wanted to run my own business and knew that I would be more likely to find success through franchising - I just had to find the right opportunity. I wanted a business in an industry that I was interested in and one that would let me use my experience as a Sky installation engineer and this led me straight to TVSAS.

'Before the launch I had a four-week residential training course, which was brilliant. There was a lot to learn but it was all very relevant to making the most of your business. TVSAS head office spends a huge amount of time and resources procuring local and national contracts for its franchisees, and I am extremely lucky to leave my training course with an immediate start 12 month contract worth more than £250,000 in addition to all the normal income streams. There is so much potential in the business that I am already looking to invest in another territory.'
