"Business is going very well and I love being my own boss"

Winning the Well Polished Franchise Owner of the Year award was a nice surprise for Euan Taylor whose business has experienced month-on-month growth from the start

Following the launch of his Bolton and Bury-based franchise 18 months ago, Well Polished franchise owner Euan Taylor has experienced consistent growth. In recognition of his hard work, Well Polished founder Sandra Venables presented Euan with the Franchise Owner of the Year award at the network's national sales conference in December.

"Winning the award was a nice surprise," enthuses Euan, who only found out that he had won the award on the day of the conference. "As well as receiving an engraved glass award, I also received John Lewis vouchers and a £250 voucher to put towards advertising. I have already invested a lot of time and money on advertising my business and this has paid off, because my business continues to grow month-on-month. As well as doing weekly leaflet drops, I advertise in local directories and online."

Well Polished is a domestic cleaning introductions agency and has territories available nationwide at £5,900. Well Polished offers clients a variety of services from standard house cleans, bed making and laundry to one-off blitz cleans and since 2009 franchise owners have been able to provide an in-house, same day ironing service called Well Pressed.

Euan has also found a demand for commercial cleaning in his territory, which has increased his revenue as he explains: "Several small local companies have taken advantage of the affordable quality cleaning service Well Polished offers and book to have their offices cleaned on a regular basis. Business is going very well. I love being my own boss and having complete control over my timetable. Now I have more time for myself and because I choose to start work early I can take time off in the afternoon to walk my dog or go to the gym.

"Before I joined Well Polished, I worked as a Recruitment Consultant and was eager to escape the corporate rat race. I had always wanted to run my own business but with no previous experience, I was dubious about starting one from scratch on my own. I had heard that franchising had a higher success rate because you have access to a tried and tested business model and ongoing support, so I researched the different industry sectors.

"Cleaning appealed because it is relatively recession-proof. I contacted Franchise Consultant Tony Urwin at Franchise Development Services North for advice. Tony recommended Well Polished and after an initial interview with Sandra and the existing franchise owners, I decided to invest."

Before the launch of his franchise, Euan attended an intensive one-week training course at head office, which covered all aspects of operating a Well Polished franchise. As part of the franchise package, all franchise owners receive ongoing support tailored to their needs.

"I loved the fact the business wasn't too big, so there was a real sense of family unity with everyone looking out for each other. Sandra was very personable and professional and when I contacted some of the existing franchise owners they all had positive things to say. The fact I would not have to do any cleaning myself and could work from the comfort of my own home initially was ideal. Although, if my business continues to grow at the same rate I will need to move into a commercial office space later this year, so that I can keep up with the demand."
