Editor's Letter

The UK is currently in the grip of General Election fever and the most closely fought contest of its kind for more than 30 years.

You - personally - may not be able to control that result but there is another way to make sure you have the final decision about your future.

And that is to vote for yourself and become your own boss rather than see the fruits of all your hard work go to someone else. More and more people are choosing franchising as the way to realise this dream as not only does it put you in charge but you also have the back up of an established brand and fellow franchise owners.

As you will read in this edition's special Franchise Families section, those working with you or providing support could well be your spouse, sibling, child or cousin. Many families take comfort in working with people they can trust and at the top of that list are your relatives. Some of our featured franchise owners started their own business specifically to work with their family or are building up a successful territory to pass onto the next generation.

Those of you reading this who are about to or have left the Armed Forces will be able to find out about a recently launched £5 million scheme which will be delivered by the Royal British Legion. This 'Be The Boss' campaign offers everything ex-service personnel will need to set out in business including training, support and financing. Over the years, The Franchise Magazine has featured many former Armed Forces people who have found that owning a franchise is one of the few viable options open to them once they hit 'Civvy Street'.

If the world of franchising seems too daunting to you, the 2010 edition of our sister publication The UK Franchise Directory is on sale now. You can read more about this award winning publication which includes over 1,400 franchise opportunities on this site.
