Bfa award winners a credit to the industry

October 3 2013 will always be remembered by Janis Anderson, the Caremark Aylesbury franchise owner, as a luminescent moment in a constellation of career highlights as the bfa crowned her both Franchisee of the Year and Female Franchisee of the Year at the salubrious ceremony at Birmingham’s ICC.

Every year the British Franchise Association seeks to give praise and recognise those who are setting the standard of franchising, right at the forefront of their industry and this year’s crop of nominees’ had all achieved something quite remarkable.

Ms Anderson won the bfa’s most prestigious prize – The Franchisee of the Year Award – for Caremark. Anderson was presented with one of the industry’s most sought-after awards after impressing judges with her commitment to keeping her business growing without compromise.
She said, after winning her double award: “It’s brilliant to be recognised for all the hard work which contributes towards Caremark’s success, especially at such prestigious awards. I became a Caremark franchisee at a challenging time when cuts were being introduced, but this spurred me on to drive the business forward and we have since grown from strength to strength. At Caremark we pride ourselves on our staff and the team excels at ensuring only the best level of service is provided for all of those we look after. I’m thrilled this effort has been rewarded and excited for what the future has in store.”

The Customer Service Franchisee of the Year Award featured entries from a range of different businesses but was eventually won by Nick Dee Shapland of ServiceMASTER Clean in Reading – who could not be more deserving for his dedication to building and maintaining an economically active and satisfied customer base.

Shapland said of his award: “It’s tremendous to be acknowledged for excellence in customer service by the franchise industry and as a professional business. Winning this award really is kudos to the excellent team we have here and their tireless work to ensure that client satisfaction is paramount to all activity.”

In the Young Franchisee of the Year category, Steven Prime, Esquires Coffee House franchise owner for Coventry, took the award after impressing judges with an intricate knowledge of his own business and continued growth.

In addition to Anderson’s success, Shweta Jhajharia, of business consultancy franchise ActionCOACH, provided yet more positive representation for successful women in franchising by taking home the surprise Judges Award. This award was presented to Jhajharia as a testament to her incredible achievements in her field, earning a reputation as the most successful ActionCOACH franchise owner in the UK.

Other franchise owners recognised on the night include Siggy Wilberg for his continued excellence in growing his Domino’s pizza empire across the UK – Wilberg took home the Long-Serving Franchisee of the Year Award.

In the Micro-Business Award category, Ron and Shirley Maynard, of Card Connection, topped the nominees for displaying excellent people and motivational skills in their Oxford and Banbury location. Michael Johnson, Managing Director of Card Connection, said: “Ron and Shirley are highly respected by everyone in our network, they maintain exceptionally high standards within their franchise which I believe is a significant reason for their success over the years. One couldn’t wish for more dedicated, professional and conscientious franchisees therefore, this award is a testament to the continued hard work and effort they have put in to build their franchise business over the long -term.”

Anderson of Caremark took not only the Franchisee of the Year Award, but the Female Franchisee as well, ensuring the night was a bumper success for the exemplary care franchise. Successful women were particularly well recognised at this year’s awards, proving that franchising is indeed one area of business where independent women can thrive.

bfa Director Brian Smart said: “Every year we are overwhelmed by the sheer quality of the winners and with the new awards introduced this year, we were thrilled to see such strong businesspeople in each category. The passion through which the winners drive their businesses forward is captivating. They are true trailblazers in their industries and it is fantastic to be celebrating their business excellence at this year’s awards.”
