Shadow Health Secretary Visits Home Instead
The award-winning care franchise team at Home Instead Senior Care were delighted, earlier this year, to welcome Shadow Health Secretary, Andy Burnham, and Warrington South MP, David Mowatt to their national office to discuss pressing issues within the industry.
Burnham’s visit was particularly timely after his speech earlier this year announced plans to develop a ‘Whole Person Care’ scheme, which is generally regarded as a new and collaborative approach to the provision of care in the 21st century.
Burnham explained his care philosophy to CEO Trevor Brocklebank and COO Martin Jones, and stressed the need to move towards prevention and keeping people safe and happy in their own homes. Burnham and Mowatt were particularly interested to discover the thinking behind Home Instead Senior Care’s model of care, which has won plaudits across the industry in recent years.
Commenting on the meeting, Martin Jones, COO said: “We were really interested to hear what Andy had to say, especially as his vision for a more integrated system is so closely aligned with ours. “What’s more, he sees no reason why Governments shouldn’t work with commercial organisations, recognising that we need to act as one nation to tackle the hurdles we all face as a result of our ageing population.”
Following the visit, Burnham said: “It was good to visit Home Instead and hear how they are trying to change the care of older people for the better. They are right to reject the 15-minute visits used by others and provide personalised support. I hope others will follow their lead.”
