In her seventh year as a Photography for Little People franchise owner, Melanie Kemp has achieved the work life balance she was looking for.

Kemp launched her franchise, which creates images of young children and their families as well as hand-crafted impressions of their hands and feet, in February 2005. She said: “I had just had my second and last child, Oliver, and didn’t want to return to a normal 9-5 job. I wanted the freedom to work around my family and work in a field I was very passionate about.”

Although Photography for Little People provides training and support, having previous photography experience is an advantage. Kemp added: “I have a wealth of photographic experience and as a mum of two young boys I am able to see very clearly what mums desire for those keepsakes. I appreciate and enjoy the close relationships that develop with my clients and many return over and over again for the services I offer and are very happy to recommend me to their friends.”

Kemp is home-based, however she often goes to her client’s homes as part of the personal service she offers. She said: “Working for myself with Photography for Little People gives me flexibility to work around my family, its fun, I love what I do and the rewards are not just financial but the joy I get from seeing my clients enjoying and appreciating my work.”
