As well as reaching 1000 outlets the company has sold a further 300 franchises and has these stores in development. Subway reached its 1000th outlet with the opening of three stores in the same day in Southend-on-Sea, Essex; Donegal, Republic of Ireland; and Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. Having doubled its stores in the last two years Subway plans to open another 1000 outlets by 2010, which will take the total jobs creation to over 30,000 and see a total investment of £200 million.

'The level of growth we've experienced in the UK and Ireland is a fantastic achievement,' says Kevin Graham, Subway's Regional Director for Europe, Israel and South Africa. 'It reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of the Development Agents and franchisees, together with the power of the Subway brand and the strength of its systems, policies and procedures.'
