Costa Coffee is the second largest coffee chain in the world, with more than 2,700 stores across 30 countries, including over 1,600 stores in the UK and over 300 in China.

Andy Marshall, Managing Director of Costa Coffee International Franchise commented: "Costa is a truly global brand that is enjoyed by customers all over the world. Its great news that we're extending our reach into Morocco, which is an exciting market where there is already an established coffee culture.

"We believe it is the right time for Costa Coffee to offer our unique Mocha Italia blend and quality handcrafted coffee-to-coffee lovers in Morocco and we envisage a significant store opening programme over the coming years.

"We have a great partner in Fawaz A. Alhokair & Co. and are looking forward to working with them to deliver this exciting opportunity."

Simon Marshall of Fawaz A. Alhokair & Co. said: "We are delighted to partner with Whitbread PLC and welcome the opportunity to launch and expand the Costa Coffee format across Morocco."

In the past five years, Costa Coffee has grown rapidly, opening on average 150 international stores every year. In 1999 Costa Coffee opened its first international store at the Aviation Club, Dubai and it now has over 1,000 international stores, having extended its reach further into Europe, Middle East, North Africa, India, China and South East Asia.
