Canadian fitness club franchise Curves has announced the opening of its 10,000th franchise in Toronto. The company, which provides fitness and weight loss centres designed specifically for women, began franchising in 1995.

"This milestone represents an important advancement in women's wellness on a worldwide scale," says Curves Founder and CEO Gary Heavin. "With 10,000 clubs in 44 countries - including almost 750 in Canada - we're impacting the health and longevity of more than 4 million women, who in turn are effecting a positive influence on their families."

The Toronto franchise is owned by James Barczak, who received a commemorative plaque to hang in the club. "It's exciting to be part of a company that has taken women's wellness to a whole new level,' he says. 'We're helping women to lead healthier lives all over the world."
