'It would never have happened at the G8 Summit at Gleneagles, Scotland, where state-of-the-art tablet personal computers were used for communication purposes, on which notes could be written in total secrecy.'

Hire Intelligence, one of Britain's leaders in computer and audiovisual equipment rental was contracted by the Foreign Office to provide total secure communications for the G8 meeting. The company was responsible for making sure all the messages passed between heads of state and their back-up team remained confidential.

To achieve this task Hire Intelligence implemented a technological infrastructure which transmitted messages on secure links to each leader's back-up team. Hire Intelligence Managing Director Wolf-RĂ¼diger Feiler says: 'President Bush could have avoided this embarrassment if he had used the technology we installed at Gleneagles, where all the leader's secrets remained intact.'

Hire Intelligence, which has 23 outlets throughout the UK, specialises in hiring out electronic equipment for conferences, training sessions and special events.
