Virginia Barlow was granted planning permission from the councillors at East Herts District Council to change the use of a site at 231 London Road. The new facility will offer The Little Gym's curriculum based gymnastics programme, which evolves with each stage of a child's cognitive and motor skills development. The programme is available for children of all abilities from four months to 12 years.

The Little Gym programme, which originated from a concept from the US, combines weekly-themed music, games and motor-skills activities that aims to encourage a healthy disposition from a young age and, later, a love of exercise.

'We're delighted to have secured our premises in London Road and give huge thanks to everyone who has supported us,' says Virginia Barlow, The Little Gym franchisee. 'I have watched both my children grow in confidence and skill having attended The Little Gym and feel passionately about child health and well-being.

'At a time when children's health is at the forefront of government policy and everyone's minds, there's a great need for facilities like The Little Gym, which provide exercise in a fun and nurturing environment, allowing even the least confident child to blossom.'

Keith Barnes, Councillor at East Herts District Council, adds: 'As an Independent local councillor, born and raised in the town, I have always supported initiatives like this, that will actually provide a service that is clearly needed for our youngsters - and at the same time make use of empty office space. And I couldn't think of a more suitable venture.'
