Research carried out by Puragen has revealed that 59 per cent of 2,000 UK homeowners surveyed do not understand the subject of renewable energy at all and would welcome advice on the options open to them.

Jeremy Malindine, Head of Puragen, said: “We were surprised at some of the reasons that deter people. It’s a myth for example that you need bright sunshine; even on a dull day you can still generate energy from the sun.

“There are so many misconceptions about renewable energy and we hope to make the process much simpler and empower people with the information they need.”

According to Puragen, the company addresses this lack of knowledge and understanding by providing informed advice and quality installations. Its intention is to become the leading name in the industry and dispel the images of installers as cowboy traders.

“As with all markets rogue traders are, unfortunately, very common nowadays,” added Malindine. “It used to be double glazing which attracted dodgy salesmen, but now it seems they have moved into the market of renewable technology – peddling solar panels, heat pumps and wind turbines at heavily discounted prices. Our advice is if it seems too cheap, it is most likely an inferior product or an inferior installer.

“At Puragen, we have years of experience in the field of renewable energy so we are very well placed to offer sound advice on a case-by-case basis. What’s right for one home, is not necessarily right for all.”

Puragen is looking for more franchise owners across the UK to get on board with the venture. It wants people with passion and enthusiasm for business and who are hungry for new opportunities.

Franchise owners have already set up operations in the greater Manchester area and are noticing a growing interest from consumers, looking to switch to renewables. Steve Berry, joint franchise owner of the new Puragen branch in Middleton, said: “As energy prices continue to rise, renewable energy is an attractive solution for homes and businesses alike. Helping our customers to understand the potential benefits is really important to us.”

Berry and his business partner, Mark Styles, have a combined experience of 52 years in the electrical contracting and energy industries; bringing a wealth of experience to the business. However, experience in the industry is not vital for those considering investing in Puragen, as Berry said: “Puragen provides a great marketing franchise opportunity where no electrical installation experience is required.

“The renewable energy industry is growing at a phenomenal rate and with opportunities across the UK, there really has never been a better time to join the renewable revolution.”
